Seatails Blog Splashes to Surface

Mermaids have long been a passion for me, one that I've explored in any number of communication modalities. In 1987, I created Seatails Magazine, a small, limited run fanzine devoted to mermaids and related beings, following up in 1994 with Seatails Online, a site that has been in continuous existence since then. More recently, I've established four Yahoo groups: Seatails, SeatailsSirens, Mermaids and Medusa, and turned Seatails into a Mermaid Community website (at http://www.seatails.com).

The idea of doing a Seatails Blog is perhaps a little bit out of that line, but it is also intended (like many of my previous works) to be an experiment with the blog medium. The inspiration came from another blog I write, The Metaphorical Web, which concentrates on programming issues. Unlike that one, the Seatails Blog lets me explore the fiction aspects, without having to deal with some of the hassles associated with trying to maintain a continuous thread in the community group. I'm not abandoning the Seatails community - I see this as being an adjunct for the other groups, a way of playing that complements the existing structures of the community.

So what can you expect here? I'll be writing stories and essays on merfolk (and related things), posting pictures found and created, point out cool links. Some of it may be a wee-bit naughty (mermaids and clothes generally do not tend to occur together in the same context), so if you are offended by such I would recommend that you do not subscribe. I see the web as being an interactive media, rather than a static one, and blogs offer one way of accomplishing that.
